Former Styx lead singer Dennis DeYoung is in a celebratory mood. He just announced a 40th anniversary present for fans of their classic “The Grand Illusion” LP.

The singer plans to perform the album in its entirety on a tour that starts tomorrow

The tour is called “Grand Illusion 40th Anniversary Album Tour,” begins Feb. 9 in Wausau, Wisconsin and runs until May 19 in Concord, New Hampshire.

“The Grand Illusion” was released on July 7, 1977. It was a real breakthrough album for the band selling 3 million albums in the U.S. alone. It’s in the same group as “Pieces of Eight” from 1978 and 1981’s “Paradise Theatre.” that all sold over 3 million copies. DeYoung sang lead vocals on four of the eight tunes on the album. Guitarist Tommy Shaw sand on three and their other guitarist James Young sang on one. The two hits on “The Grand Illusion” were DeYoung’s “Come Sail Away” which peaked at #8 on Billboard and Shaw’s “Fooling Yourself” which reached #29 on the chart.

It was their seventh studio album De Young says, “I formulated the theme behind the Grand Illusion album after observing how American culture creates illusions through advertising and entertainment to convince us that our lives our lacking, in order to sell products, I told the audience that we were part of the Illusion and warned them not to be ‘fooled by the radio,’ which was us, and that in the end, despite the illusions and hype created, that ‘deep inside we’re all the same.’
