Every one of their albums went to #1 in their homeland of Sweden except their first “Ring Ring” which peaked at #2. They had 15 Top 40 singles in Sweden, 14 Top hits in the U.S. “Dancing Queen from their album “Arrival” in 1976 went #1 all over the world making it one of their biggest hits ever. The bands expectations might not be that high for their new tunes, which are scheduled for release this year, but there is certainly a lot of excitement.

In a joint statement, band-members Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad said, “The decision to go ahead with the exciting Abba avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”

One of the two new songs that resulted, called “I Still Have Faith in You,” will be feature in a Abba TV special in December.

The statement concluded: “We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”

They were active from 1972 to 1982. At one point Agnetha and Bjorn were a couple and Benny and Anni-Frid were together.

Agnetha told the Daily Mirror in 1981, “I am someone who is afraid of a lot of things. I have phobias, sickening anxieties. I’m afraid to mingle with people. I can’t go shopping. I can’t go out and go to restaurants or bars. If I do go out, people stare at me and I can’t cope with that. That fear to go out the door is my biggest phobia. I’m a very anxious kind of person.”

It was all build by chance meetings, as things usually are, hard work and amazing talent. Benny and Bjorn wrote and produced the tunes and also sang but it was the golden voice of the ladies Agnetha and Anni-Frid that certainly cemented the deal. – by John Beaudin
