Mark Farner & Don Brewer – We’re An American Band – Two Different Views

We’re an American band was the seventh studio album from Grand Funk Railroad. It was their fourth hit and the first of two #1 hits – the other was their cover of “The Loco-Motion” the following year in 1974.

This is part three of a twelve part series on the band Grand Funk Railroad. We interviewed both drummer/vocalist Don Brewer and original singer/guitarist Mark Farner separately since they are not really talking over Farner saying he was cheated out of the band.

We asked both Mark and Don on the making of “We’re An American Band.” Here are two different versions of the same song. First Don, who sings the tune. (Clip DB005)

That was Don Brewer who sings that #1 tune from Grand Funk Railroad. We also asked former lead singer and guitarist Mark Farner about the making of the tune. (Clip MF0014B)

There was a version of “We’re An American Band” done by Canadian Nash the Slash simply titled “American Band.”..It’s easy to assume that anybody who sings a #1 hit would know the covers that are out there. I was surprised when I asked Don Brewer About it. (Clip DB017)

We will have more of our exclusive conversations with Don Brewer and Mark Farner next week. Hopefully one day they will play together again.
