July 24, 2022 – Another big day in the history of rock and roll and other related genre’s that we cover. Musicians born on this day include drummers Alan Whitehead (Marmalade), Graham Lear (Gino Vannelli, Paul Anka, REO Speedwagen), and Paul Geary (Extreme).

We lost drummer Bobby Ramirez in 1972 who died as a result of a Chicago bar fight and longtime American member Dan Peek who sang “Lonely Children” and “Today’s the Day,” among others.

Marvin Gaye recorded the big hit “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You,” and Bob Dylan released “Like a Rolling Stone” Jefferson Starship’s big album “Surrealistic Pillow” went gold on this day in 1967.

Today was also a big day for Elton John and Kiki Dee via their duet of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and the Rocky III mega-hit “Eye of The Tiger” by Survivor.

In this report we were happy to share some classy news about George Martin. He released “Careless Whisper” on this day. Though it was credited to Wham on it’s USA released the tune was actually a George Michael solo song. Michael wrote the tune as a teen and by the time it was released gave writing credit to former Wham partner Andrew Ridgeley.
