INTERVIEW – Toto’s Steve Porcaro Thought Parts Of Human Nature Were Horrible At First

Today marks the 9 year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death. I was working on this video and my 14 -year-old song Chase, who’s done many Toto drum covers walks up to me and says, dad, you know it’s the anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death right? The band Toto were all over ‘Thriller.’ Steve Porcaro also did the synthesizer programming for Jackson/Paul McCartney duet, ‘The Girl Is Mine,’ ‘Beat It,’ ‘The Lady in My Life’ and ‘Human Nature.’ Steve Lukather worked on at least 4 tracks, so did David Paich and Steve’s late brother Jeff Porcaro. Steve Porcaro on ‘Human Nature.’

I’ve always had a strong appreciation for Steve Porcaro’s role in Toto. He was with them from their debut in 1978 until ‘The Seventh One” in 1988. On the latter album he was down as a guest however. He came back a few years ago and also appeared on Toto XIV an album that proved that they aged like fine wine!

In 2016 Steve Porcaro released his first solo album in June 2016. Toto have just released “40 Trips Around the Sun’ a remastered greatest hits with three unreleased tunes. The band’s 2018 ’40 Trips Around The Sun’ tour start son July 30th in Vancouver, B.C. Canada and wraps up on Lynn, Massachusetts on November 17th. Go to for details. – – by John Beaudin
