Elton John’s debut album, “Empty Sky” wasn’t released in North America until 1975. It was squeezed in between his first “Greatest Hits” album and “Captain Fantastic.” Up until 1975 many North American fans thought the Elton John LP from 1970 was his debut. It didn’t help that it was self which was a trend for first albums in the seventies.

Caleb Quaye played on “Empty Sky” from 1969, as well as the ‘Elton John” album and Tumbleweed Connection, the soundtrack to “Friends,” and ‘Madman Across The Water.” He then he came back for “Rock of the Westies” and “Blue Moves” in the mid-seventies.

In our exclusive chat with Caleb Quaye I asked him if the production size and effort from “Empty Sky” in 69 to “Elton John” was that noticeable?
